Be aware of dangers at the beach
The Atlantic Ocean on the west coast of Portugal is wild and very dangerous, swimming is not possible. There are big waves, rip tides and very strong under currents which take you out without being able to swim against them. There are drownings every year. It is strongly advised to bathe only up to tigh level. If you would like to swim you need to go to the South coast.
Please bring protection against the strong sunshine, fresh winds and cold evenings even in the summer (hat, jacket, sweater, shawl).
